School prayers

Daily prayer is central to our daily life at The Marist. Prayer is the vehicle for daily dialog with God. It is a time when we stop, a time of calm, a time of peace and a time to listen. Daily prayer gives us an opportunity to share all aspects of our lives with God. It is a chance for us to express our gratitude for the things He provides. Across the school in all classes we say 4 prayers at key times in our day: at the start of our day, before lunch, after lunch and at the end of the school day.

The following prayers are common to the whole school and are used each day as appropriate. The children are also encouraged to share their thoughts – worries, concerns and celebrations in prayer.

 Start of the Day

Father in heaven you love me

You are with me night and day

I want to love you always in all I do and say.

I’ll try to please you Father,

Bless me through the day

Grace before lunch

Thank you for the world so sweet

Thank you for the food we eat

Thank you for the birds that sing

Thank you God for everything

Bless us O God as we sit together

Bless the food we eat today

Bless the hands that made the food

Bless us O God

Prayer after lunch

Thank you God for the food we have eaten

Thank you for the friends that we have made

Thank you God for everything

Dear Father,

For our daily food and giving us so much that is good

Accept our thanks we humbly pray

And keep us thankful day by day

End of the Day

God our Father, I come to say

Thank you for your love today

Thank you for my family

and all the friends you give to me

Guard me in the dark of night

and in the morning send your light

Father of us all

Thank you for another happy day at school

Thank you for the lessons we have learnt

And the games we played

May we come back tomorrow ready for

Another happy day at school.

The Marist School Prayer

This is our school, Lord,

Let peace dwell here,

Let the room be full of contentment

Let love abide here,

Love of one another,

Love of mankind,

Love of life itself

And love of God

Let us remember

That as many hands build a house

So many hearts make a school
