Homework

At the Marist, we see homework as an important way to consolidate the learning the children are doing in school.

The following homework will be given each week on a Thursday, to be returned the following Tuesday.

EYFS

  • Regular reading
  • A weekly sheet will be sent home, detailing some of the learning the children are doing in school. This will have some suggested activities you can do with your child that week.

Year 1 and 2

  • Regular reading
  • Phonics or spelling activity
  • Number bonds or times table activity

Year 3 and 4

  • Regular reading
  • Spelling practice
  • Times-table practice
  • 1 piece of homework - English or maths

Year 5 and 6

  • Regular reading
  • Spelling practice
  • 2 pieces of homework - English or maths

Additional homework activities will be set across the year. For example, book week activities and prayer leaves. Additional enrichment activities are also available on the website. These are suggested activities that you can engage in with your child to support their learning in school.

We hope the children are motivated by positive incentives and by the tasks themselves; children are not punished if they fail to complete the work and will be given opportunities to complete work during school time. However, discreet homework registers are kept and if a child consistently fails to complete and return tasks, this is discussed with you and your child.

If you find the homework inappropriate for your child or if you are concerned that homework is given inconsistently, please speak to your child’s teacher in the first instance.

Please see the video presentation below outlining the homework for all year groups.
