Computing: Our Intent, Approach and Implementation

At The Marist, our Computing curriculum empowers children to become confident, creative and responsible digital citizens. We want our pupils to understand how technology works, how to use it effectively and how to stay safe online. Online Safety is a key priority, embedded throughout the curriculum and supported by links to PSHE, helping children make informed and respectful choices in the digital world, in line with our Catholic values.

We follow the Purple Mash scheme to deliver a balanced and progressive curriculum across the three strands of the National Curriculum: Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy. Children develop both knowledge and skills through hands-on experiences, pupil-led exploration and cross-curricular links embedded throughout their learning journey. From coding and debugging to data handling and multimedia presentations, pupils engage with a range of resources including iPads, Bee-Bots and data loggers.

Lessons are designed to be practical and purposeful, encouraging children to rediscover prior learning and go deeper in their understanding. Opportunities for independent and collaborative challenges help children apply their learning creatively and effectively.
